| Pride (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood) |
I look in the mirror. Fix my hair. Trim my sideburns. Apply a little lotion.
I look in the mirror, fixing my hair again. I sure use the mirror a lot.
Sometimes I just can't, though. I can't meet my own eyes.
The glass reflects neither who I am,
nor who I should be,
nor who I want to be.
What kind of lion turns on his own pride?
Inexperience. Out of my element. Afraid.
But those are poor excuses.
There is shame in the mirror.
And every time I look there to fix up my gorgeous mane,
or to rinse my eyes, or check my mouth,
I see it in me, in place of me.
| It is ironic that the cardinal sin of a lion is pride. |
Onward I walk, once again,
to find a pride again.
Hopefully I will learn from my repeat mistakes,
that consequences will leave a lasting impression,
not of shame, but of experience and wisdom.
That my pride will not have have to fear me, but to trust me.
That I can trust myself to protect and honor them.
